Alpine Rally Wants Your Memories

As a part of the celebrations to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Alpine Rally – the oldest motor sport event in Australia – a dedicated facility which we are calling “The ShowWorks Fan Zone” will be erected near the Event Headquarters for the duration of the 2022 Lock and Load Transport Alpine Rally of East Gippsland.

The ShowWorks Fan Zone will celebrate all things Alpine Rally – including a car display, information booth, update scores and most importantly, an Alpine memorabilia display.

It will be the centre of the event for the hundreds of spectators and rally enthusiasts who are expected to attend.

However, in order to fill the memorabilia display, we need your memories of Alpine’s past.

These can be in the form of newspaper articles, posters, photos, videos, cars, car parts, registration plates, Alpine trophies, badges, banners, road signs, control boards – pretty much anything which relates to the Alpine Rally, past and present.

Alpine Rally Clerk of the Course, Owen Polanski has already assembled some priceless memories, including a pristine condition rally sign from a 1930s Alpine!

It’s this sort of invaluable memorabilia that we would be grateful for you to loan to us for our display, as we are keen to have as much as possible of the past on display.

To ensure security, the memorabilia display will be manned 24 hours each day that the runs, which will be from Thursday 1 December 2022 to Sunday 4 December. We would be very pleased to hear from you if you are able to assist.

The Fan Zone will be built on the grass of the beautiful Lakes Entrance foreshore and will be directly opposite Bellevue on the Lake Motel, which will double as the Alpine Rally Event Headquarters.  The Champagne finish of the Alpine Rally of East Gippsland will also be held there on Sunday afternoon.

It’s important that each article donated for the 4 days of the display is clearly marked with the owners name, so we can ensure your valuable memories are returned to you – maybe for the 120th anniversary of the Alpine in 2041?

Please contact our Fan Zone Manager, Jen Grant on fanzone@alpinerally.org.au and we can discuss your valuable contributions further.
